Águas Azuis

Águas Azuis is responsible for the construction of the most modern and innovative naval project ever carried out in Brazilian territory, the Tamandaré Class Frigates. Designed with the latest technology available in global shipbuilding, the vessels will help the Brazilian Navy to guarantee the sovereignty of the national territory and protect the country's natural wealth.

Águas Azuis was formed from the Águas Azuis Consortium, an alliance between thyssenkrupp Marine Systems, Embraer Defense & Security and Atech, chosen by the Brazilian Navy for the construction of four Tamandaré Class frigates, the most innovative naval project ever built in national territory.

The construction will be carried out entirely in Brazil, at the Oceana shipyard, located in Itajaí (SC), and will guarantee the country a robust transfer of technology in naval engineering. There will also be the qualification of local labor, which will guarantee the development of future strategic defense projects.

Tamandaré Class Frigate

The Tamandaré-class frigates will be 107.2 meters long, with a maximum beam of 15.95 meters, displacement of 3,500 tons, state-of-the-art sensors, in addition to exceptional stability and adaptability, with a “two island philosophy” survival center, modular design for multiple uses, providing high combat capability and resilience at sea.

The frigate will be able to face the navigation demands of the Atlantic Ocean and will be equipped with missile and torpedo launchers. There will also be stealth capabilities, from reducing visibility to radar. The capacity is for 136 crew members, plus a helicopter, capable of anti-submarine operations, and a drone, an unmanned vehicle, capable of vertical landing and take-off.

Construction

The Oceana shipyard, acquired in September 2020 by thyssenkrupp Marine Systems, is the basis for the construction of the Tamandaré Class frigates. Occupying an area of 310 thousand m² in the city of Itajaí, in Santa Catarina, the shipyard uses the most modern construction processes, state-of-the-art facilities and a contingent of more than 1000 employees.

The shipyard was designed with important sustainability standards, such as reuse of rainwater, ventilation and natural lighting, in addition to an adjacent green area of 55,000 m².
